BELIEVE: The Enduring Brilliance of Cher
Few artists have commanded the spotlight for nearly six decades with the same unwavering
presence and reinvention as Cher. From her first hit in 1965 to her latest projects, she has
proven time and time again that resilience, talent, and authenticity are the true markers of a
lasting icon.
Born Cherilyn Sarkisian in 1946, Cher burst onto the scene in the mid-'60s as one-half of Sonny
& Cher, captivating audiences with their hit "I Got You Babe." Her deep contralto voice, striking
beauty, and undeniable charisma set her apart immediately. By the early '70s, she had become
a television superstar, commanding attention on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour while
simultaneously launching a successful solo career with hits like "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves."
Cher’s ability to evolve with the times is unparalleled. In the late '70s, she embraced rock with
"Take Me Home," donned elaborate Bob Mackie costumes, and took Vegas by storm. The '80s
saw her conquer Hollywood, earning an Academy Award for Moonstruck in 1988, proving she
was more than just a singer—she was a force in every realm of entertainment.
Just when the industry thought she had reached her peak, Cher roared back in the late '90s with
Believe, a song that not only introduced Auto-Tune to mainstream music but also became an
anthem of empowerment and reinvention. It cemented her as a pop goddess for a new
generation.
Over the decades, she has continued to captivate—whether through dazzling tours, chart-
topping albums, social media wit, or scene-stealing film roles (Burlesque, anyone?). Even now,
with a Christmas album and a memoir filled with her signature humor and honesty, Cher
remains as relevant as ever.
Why is she still beloved? Because she’s fearless. She says what she thinks, does what she
wants, and never lets anyone define her limits. Cher is more than a star—she’s a movement, a
symbol of strength, beauty, and the sheer power of believing in yourself.
“BELIEVE”. Shows the strength and beauty of Cher; an amazing talent with longevity. I've
witnessed her whole run. To witness Cher’s journey is to witness history in motion. And through
it all, she has never let us down.
Some “items” to look for:
She has Mermaids & Moonglow in her eyes. Being dyslexic, I have that in her eye also. She is
saying:” If I could turn back time, If I could find a way” ... If I could reach the stars, I’d give them
all back to you.” Who would imagine a Cher with no Hair!? Well, I felt it would be near
impossible to do her “DO”, so, I let you “see” it within your own mind. That;’s the EYECON
effect. ! Fun isn’t it. ?! I find a peaceful beauty in her face.
On the left side of the drawing it has Cher’s quote : “I’ll be famous. That was my goal.” I’d
certainly say: Mission accomplished! BELIEVE that !!
