WILD THING
Jimi Hendrix, (James Marshall Hendrix) was born John Allen Hendrix, on November 27,
1942 in Seattle Washington, and died September 18, 1970 in London, England. As a
singer, songwriter, and incredible original guitarist, Jimi combined all the American
traditions of blues, jazz, soul, and rock & roll with the new sounds and skills blasting out
of England. With these ingredients, Jimi uniquely redefined the versatility of the electric
guitar. Sadly, his career as a headliner and world renowned performer only lasted a
mere 4 short years. Nevertheless, Hendrix was able to redirect the path of popular
music, and in the end, became one of the most influential and successful
guitarist/musicians of the time. With his guitars; favorably The Fender “Strat”, Jimi
discovered a whole new pallet of expressive sounds and dimensions whether the song
was a screaming rocker or a beautiful ballad. Also, no one commanded the stage like
Jimi. His vision as a guitarist broke through all the genres of music, and his colorful
outfits were “hip” to the white and black; the hippies and the “suits.”
Paul McCartney still today says he feels a shiver go down his spine whenever he thinks
of the 1st time he saw Jimi play at a Londin nightclub. (The Saville Theater). Neil
Young: “When you play a guitar, you can play or you can transcend. Jimi showed me
that.” These are just a few musical giants that marveled at Jimi’s ability and creativity.
