“THE RISING” - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Those of us that need an introduction to the life works and talents of Bruce
Springsteen may be far and few between. He has captured the American Soul, the
working man’s blues, and the thrills of young, exciting love. Bruce has been a
mainstay icon in popular music for almost 50 years. He has come a long way from
Long Branch N.J.
The “Rising” Album, (his 12th Studio album of 21), was released July 30, 2002. Its
main single, “The Rising” was Bruce’s response to the tragedy of 911. The theme of
the album is wrapped around the ideas of loss, the rebirth of strength, faith and the
hope of mankind. The song won a Grammy for the best Rock song, and another
Grammy for best male rock vocal performance. It was nominated for “song of the
year”. Bruce was able to put in song what people were trying hard to find words to
say or the comprehension to believe what had happened. It’s hard to believe that was
20+ years ago already.
These “portraits” are made up of the subject’s thoughts, quotes, lyrics, and some
personal information. In his mouth area, you’ll find significant lines he said or sang.
The same can be said for his eyes. You’ll see the line: “Can’t see nothing in front of
me”. “I see you Mary in the garden of 1,000 dreams.” Also “Sky of Blackness” In his
ear it says “Bells are Ringing”.
America has always had its share of wonderful story tellers , troubadours, minstrels,
singing cowboys & hobos, vaudevillians, and great singer-songwriters like Bruce,
who are able to capture the tone and temper of a nation; grab it’s heart and soul; put
it into song, and continue to tell the truth.
“The Rising” was chosen for two reasons. First the significance of this album’s
“answer” to that tragic day. Secondly, “The Rising” signifies the prominence of
Bruce Springsteen as a great songwriter and lasting symbol of the hope of America
