HOT SHOTS- OPENING PARTY SAT. AUG. 23rd 5-7pm
Curators’ Quote
‘A hot shot is someone who makes an impact or captures something stunning, sexy and cool. Featured artist Russell Young fits that description perfectly as he is a master of impact with iconic images of fame like Monroe, Taylor, Bardot and Jagger adorned by diamond dust that creates an eternal spotlight alongside his recent oeuvre of 17th century Dutch flower paintings that intertwine the symbolism of decaying beauty with the power of clandestine connections. Young, whose works have graced the blocks of all of the world’s major auction houses, would probably be dead if he had not lied about his age to attend art college at 15 as he showed up on campus with three big holes in the back of his head, one from a glass, one from a bottle and one from a typewriter and two knife wounds in his side. Surviving two more near death experiences years later created the artist one sees today.
Per ardua ad astra. Through adversity to the stars.
With ‘Hot Shots’ being intentionally plural we wanted to finish the season with the inclusion of a few other renowned artists. Photographers Terry O’Neill and Norman Parkinson capture the innocence of nascent celebrity. Italian Vogue photographer Greg Lotus creates engaging female-centric, evocative narratives and photographer Bob Tabor, known for his Ralph Lauren polo images, presents equine images in all their splendor. We could end with the confluence of heat that will no doubt produce a steamy exhibit, but we prefer
to close with an exhibit this hot is sure to be cool.’
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Fighting Chance
